What’s Happening around Sevier County, TN September 14 – 20, 2026

Fall is officially starting to show up around Sevier County this week, and apparently it brought every car it could find with it.

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival begins Monday, the Fall Rod Run takes over Pigeon Forge later in the week, the F-100 Supernationals are happening in Sevierville, Dumplin Valley Bluegrass returns to Kodak, and several traffic issues are stacked into the same few days.

In other words, enjoy Monday through Wednesday.

By Friday? Chaos.

🚨 Sevier County Chaos Predictor: 5/5 — TOTAL CHAOS

With Rod Run, the F-100 Supernationals, Friday football, early school dismissal, normal weekend arrivals, Dollywood’s Harvest Festival and other events all overlapping, Friday afternoon through Saturday is total chaos territory.

If you don’t need to be in Pigeon Forge during the busiest periods, this is a good weekend to avoid it.

It’s looking hot and humid for much of the week, with highs around 90.

There are also chances for scattered thunderstorms around Rod Run weekend, which longtime locals will recognize as one of the more reliable Sevier County traditions. 😁

🚗 Car Show Traffic: Pigeon Forge and Sevierville

Two major vehicle events overlap September 17-19: the Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run at the LeConte Center and the F-100 Supernationals at the Sevierville Convention Center.

For traffic purposes, expect the Parkway, Teaster Lane and Veterans Boulevard in Pigeon Forge to get increasingly busy beginning Thursday, with Friday afternoon and Saturday likely the worst periods. On the north end of the county, watch for extra traffic around Winfield Dunn Parkway, Gists Creek Road and the convention center area.

🏃 Walters State Traffic Advisory Monday and Tuesday

The City of Sevierville is warning drivers to expect heavy traffic from 2-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday around Walters State Community College on Old Newport Highway.

A cross-country running event is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. each day. The heaviest impacts are expected around Old Newport Highway, Highway 416/Pittman Center Road and Ernest McMahan Road. Police may also alter traffic movements depending on conditions.

🚌 Schools Let Out Early Friday

Sevier County Schools traditionally dismiss approximately one hour early on Rod Run Friday.

The idea is practical: get students, parents and school buses moving before the worst of Friday’s Rod Run traffic builds. Parents should keep the shortened school day in mind when planning Friday afternoon.

🏈 Friday Night Football Adds More Traffic

Gatlinburg-Pittman plays at Pigeon Forge Friday evening at 7 p.m., putting another event directly into the Rod Run traffic zone.

With Friday visitor arrivals, school dismissal, the Rod Run and football all overlapping, give yourself extra time if you’re traveling through Pigeon Forge Friday evening.

🏞️ Smokies Road Work

Great Smoky Mountains National Park has several traffic impacts this week.

On the Gatlinburg Spur, a southbound single-lane closure is scheduled September 14-17 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. between the Gatlinburg Welcome Center and the Gatlinburg city limit for storm-damage repairs. Shoulder closures are also scheduled near Huskey Grove Bridge September 14-16.

On Little River Road, the park plans temporary closures September 15 and 17 for maintenance. The affected segments are scheduled to close from 7 a.m.-noon, with Wears Valley Road serving as the main detour.

🚧 Boyds Creek Bridge Work Delayed

If you were wondering why the expected Boyds Creek Highway delays never really materialized, the project was delayed because of a supply issue.

The eastbound lane closure on the bridge over the Little Pigeon River, just east of Winfield Dunn Parkway, is now scheduled to begin Monday, September 21.

Work is expected daily from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. through October 23, weather and conditions permitting. Traffic will be maintained, but delays are expected, especially during heavier periods.

🚦 Exit 408 Public Meeting Tuesday

TDOT is holding a public meeting Tuesday, September 15, from 5-7 p.m. at the Sevierville Convention Center regarding the proposed new Interstate 40 Exit 408 interchange.

The proposed interchange would be approximately 1.75 miles east of the existing Exit 407 and is intended to provide another connection in the growing I-40/Winfield Dunn Parkway area.

🚗 Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run

The Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run runs September 17-19 at the LeConte Center.

This is one of the biggest car-show weekends of the year in Pigeon Forge, bringing show cars, cruising and plenty of spectators to the Parkway corridor.

If the cars are the reason you’re coming, plan extra time and expect crowds. If they aren’t, Friday afternoon through Saturday is the window we’d most strongly avoid.

🛻 F-100 Supernationals

The F-100 Supernationals run September 17-19 at the Sevierville Convention Center.

The event brings Ford trucks from around the country to Sevierville, putting a second major vehicle show on the calendar at the same time as Rod Run.

That makes the north end of the county busier too, especially around Winfield Dunn Parkway, Gists Creek Road and the convention center.

🏁 Mustang vs Camaro Showdown

Saturday, September 19 also brings the Mustang vs Camaro Showdown to NASCAR SpeedPark in Sevierville.

It is another car-focused event landing on an already packed weekend, so it is worth knowing about if you are heading toward the Parkway or the Tanger/NASCAR SpeedPark area.

🎶 Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival

The 26th annual Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival runs September 17-19 in Kodak.

Performances begin at noon each day, and the covered performance area means the music goes on rain or shine. Parking is free, and the festival is just off I-40 Exit 407.

If you’re headed toward Kodak or the north end of the county this weekend, remember that the bluegrass festival and F-100 Supernationals are both happening at the same time.

🎃 Dollywood Harvest Festival Begins Monday

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival begins Monday, September 14 and runs through October 31.

That means the return of fall décor, seasonal food, live music and Great Pumpkin LumiNights, including more than 12,000 glowing pumpkins around the park.

Locals who want to experience the festival before peak fall tourism really gets rolling may want to take advantage of a weekday visit.

💦 Splash Country’s Final Weekend

Dollywood’s Splash Country is scheduled to finish its 2026 season on Sunday, September 20.

With temperatures still hanging around summertime levels, this is the last scheduled weekend to squeeze in a water-park day before the gates close for the season.

🦋 Local Schools Honor Dolly Parton

Sevier County High School and Gatlinburg-Pittman High School are honoring Dolly Parton during the 2026 football season with special commemorative helmet decals.

The guitar-pick-shaped decals include Dolly’s signature and a butterfly, honoring her legacy and the impact she had on local schools and the community.

The Sevier County High School connection is especially fitting: Dolly graduated from Sevier County High School in 1964.

🚲 Cades Cove Vehicle-Free Wednesday

Wednesday, September 16 is another Vehicle-Free Wednesday in Cades Cove.

The 11-mile Loop Road is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists for the day. NPS notes that parking is limited and recommends considering an afternoon arrival to avoid the morning rush.

Remember that a parking tag is required if you park anywhere inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park for more than 15 minutes.

Sevier County’s Harrisburg Covered Bridge is one of them. The 83-foot timber truss bridge crosses the Little Pigeon River, was built in 1875 and still carries traffic today.

Gatlinburg Winter Magic begins November 5, followed by Sevierville Winterfest, Pigeon Forge Winterfest and Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas on November 6.

Other dates already worth knowing include the Gatlinburg Veterans Day Celebration on November 11, the Gatlinburg Winter Festival & Chili Cookoff on November 12, and the Pigeon Forge Winterfest Celebration on November 13.

The first half of the week should be much easier for getting around than the second.
