🎡 Early September: Fair, Labor Day and the start of fall

Sevier County Fair | Sept. 1-7

The 2026 Sevier County Fair runs Sept. 1-7 at the Sevier County Fairgrounds on Old Knoxville Highway in Sevierville. The fair says there will be no rides operating Tuesday, Sept. 1, so keep that in mind if the midway is the main reason your family is going.

Gate admission is $8 for ages 11 and older on regular fair days, while children 10 and under are free. Sept. 5-6 are rodeo days, with higher adult gate admission that includes the rodeo. Parking is free.

Friday, Sept. 4 is also a Sevier County School System vacation day. With Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7, many local families effectively have a four-day holiday weekend. Expect the fair and area attractions to benefit from that extra family traffic.

Gatlinburg Harvest Festival | Sept. 1-Nov. 1

Gatlinburg Harvest Festival begins Sept. 1, bringing seasonal decorations and fall displays throughout town. September is still early for peak leaves, but downtown Gatlinburg will look increasingly like fall even while the mountains remain mostly green.

Anakeesta Bear-Varian Fall Festival | Aug. 28-Nov. 1

Anakeesta’s Bear-Varian Fall Festival starts just before September and continues through Nov. 1. The Bavarian-inspired seasonal event includes fall food, entertainment and optional beer or cider tastings.

Gatlinburg Farmers Market | Saturdays through Oct. 17

The Gatlinburg Farmers Market continues Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon at 1222 East Parkway, across from Food City. It is a good lower-key option for visitors who want something local before the heavier afternoon traffic builds.

Last chance for Jurassic Adventure | Through Sept. 13

The free Jurassic Adventure at The Island continues through Sept. 13. The Island has 22 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs along with its special Jurassic Fountain Show, making this a useful family stop before the summer attraction disappears for the season.

🍔 Sept. 10-18: Gatlinburg food, Dollywood thrills and fall attractions

Souper Bowl XXIII | Sept. 10

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts hosts its 23rd annual Souper Bowl on Sept. 10 in Gatlinburg. The community event benefits United Way of Sevier County.

GatlinBURGER Week | Sept. 11-18

GatlinBURGER Week runs Sept. 11-18. Participating Gatlinburg restaurants create specialty burgers, and visitors can try them, vote for favorites and complete challenges through the Visit Gatlinburg app.

Dollywood Thrills in the Hills | Sept. 11-12

Thrills in the Hills returns Sept. 11-12 with special coaster experiences, exclusive ride time and other activities for roller-coaster fans.

Transform Ladies Conference | Sept. 11-13

The LeConte Event Center hosts the Transform Ladies Conference Sept. 11-13. This is mainly worth noting as a traffic factor around Teaster Lane, The Island and nearby hotels and restaurants.

More family fall activities begin Sept. 11

Country Cascades begins Selena Squirrel’s Spook-tacular Celebration Sept. 11, continuing through Oct. 31 with family-friendly Halloween activities and fall décor for resort guests.

Also beginning Sept. 11, Rocky Top Mountain Coaster’s Zombie Invasion runs through Oct. 31 as a separately ticketed nighttime experience.

Dollywood Harvest Festival | Sept. 14-Oct. 31

One of the biggest signals that fall has arrived is the start of the Dollywood Harvest Festival on Sept. 14. The festival includes seasonal music, food, fall décor and Great Pumpkin LumiNights after dark. It continues through Oct. 31.

Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run | Sept. 17-19

The Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run returns to the LeConte Event Center Sept. 17-19. The Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism specifically warns visitors to expect congestion and delays when major car shows are in town.

F-100 Supernationals | Sept. 17-19

The F-100 Supernationals runs the same three days at the Sevierville Convention Center on Gists Creek Road. Show vehicles, vendors and the swap meet use both indoor and outdoor areas.

Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival | Sept. 17-19

The 26th annual Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival also runs Sept. 17-19 in Kodak near Exit 407. Performances begin around noon and continue into the evening, with camping and jam sessions adding activity throughout the weekend.

Traffic trouble spots: Pigeon Forge Parkway, Teaster Lane, Highway 66/Winfield Dunn Parkway, Gists Creek Road, the Sevierville Convention Center area and Exit 407. If you are simply passing through, allow more time than usual.

Sevierville Smoky Mountain Harvest Fest | Sept. 18-Oct. 31

Sevierville’s Smoky Mountain Harvest Fest begins Sept. 18 and runs through Oct. 31, with fall decorations around town and seasonal activities including the Harvest Hank scavenger hunt.

Mustang vs. Camaro Showdown | Sept. 19

The Mustang Versus Camaro Showdown is scheduled for Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at NASCAR SpeedPark in Sevierville. Profits from the show are donated to Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital.

Last scheduled Splash Country weekend | Through Sept. 20

Dollywood is advertising its Splash Country season through Sept. 20. The water park has several closed weekdays in September, so check the operating calendar before heading over for one last waterpark day.

🍁 Sept. 25-27: another busy fall weekend

Smoky Mountain Truck Fest | Sept. 25-26

Smoky Mountain Truck Fest takes over the Sevierville Convention Center Sept. 25-26 with lifted and lowered trucks, side-by-sides, Jeeps, vendors and other activities. Expect added traffic on Highway 66 and Gists Creek Road.

Run Dollywood Fall Race Weekend | Sept. 25-27

Run Dollywood Fall Race Weekend includes a Friday night 5K at 11 p.m., a Saturday 10K at 5:30 a.m. and Kids Fun Run at 8:15 a.m., and a Sunday half marathon at 5:30 a.m.

The unusual race times matter even if you are not participating. Watch for very early or late race-related activity around Dollywood, Veterans Boulevard and surrounding roads.

Springtime Farms Fall Festival | Sept. 25-Nov. 1

Springtime Farms begins its second annual Fall Festival Sept. 25, with seasonal activities, pumpkins, slides, an inflatable corn maze, exotic animals and other family attractions.

Chalkfest at The Island | Sept. 26

The free Chalkfest at The Island is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, with artists turning the pavement into an outdoor gallery. The listed rain date is Sept. 27.

Kyker Farms corn maze opening weekend | Sept. 26-27

Visit Sevierville lists Sept. 26-27 as the opening weekend for Kyker Farms Corn Maze, followed by Thursday-Sunday operation during October. If Kyker Farms is a main reason for your trip, check current farm hours before heading out.

Stillwell Festival | Sept. 27

The Stillwell Festival comes to Historic Downtown Sevierville on Sept. 27 with regional food, open-fire cooking demonstrations, artists, drinks and Southern entertainment.

National Quartet Convention | Sept. 27-Oct. 3

The National Quartet Convention begins Sept. 27 at the LeConte Event Center and continues through Oct. 3. This is a large multi-day Pigeon Forge convention, so expect additional activity around Teaster Lane, nearby hotels and restaurants as September ends.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family and attraction notes for September

Alcatraz East Homeschool Days run during September and October on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with discounted admission for homeschool families who meet the promotion requirements.

Fall at The Island arrives later in the month with seasonal décor, photo opportunities and fall food and drink options.

🌲 Great Smoky Mountains: Cades Cove and September fall color

Cades Cove Vehicle-Free Wednesdays

Cades Cove Vehicle-Free Days continue every Wednesday through Sept. 30. September dates are Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

The Loop Road is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists on those days. Parking tags are required when parking inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park for more than 15 minutes. The National Park Service also recommends trying the afternoon if morning parking is full.

Is September peak fall color?

Usually not. September is the beginning of the color transition in the Smokies. Some change may start at the highest elevations later in the month, but Visit Sevierville notes that peak leaf viewing is typically from mid-October into mid-November.

If you are visiting in September, come for the festivals, comfortable fall activities and the first hints of seasonal change. Do not be disappointed if most lower and middle elevations are still green.

🚧 September traffic and road-work planning

The two weekends most likely to require extra planning are:

• Sept. 17-19: Fall Rod Run + F-100 Supernationals + Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival. This is the month’s strongest 5/5 traffic period.
• Sept. 25-27: Truck Fest + Run Dollywood + Chalkfest + Kyker Farms opening weekend + Stillwell Festival + National Quartet Convention arrivals.

At the start of September, TDOT’s East Tennessee construction report lists possible nightly lane closures from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on northbound US 441/SR 71 between Ranmoor Way and the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River for an ongoing bridge replacement project.

🚘 What about the Hot Rod Nationals?

If you have an older calendar showing a Hot Rod Nationals event in Sevierville on Sept. 4-5, do not make a special trip based on that listing alone. The organizer is not currently showing an active Sevierville event or available ticketing for those dates. Check the organizer directly if you see the event advertised elsewhere before making plans.

💛 A September note on Dolly Parton

September arrives during an emotional time for Sevier County following Dolly Parton’s death. Dollywood has published an official statement and remembrance, and our September graphic includes a simple tribute to the Smoky Mountain icon whose legacy is woven throughout Sevier County.
