Late July is bringing another active summer week to Sevier County. Sevier County events this week include the Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown, the final days of Dollywood’s Summer Celebration, family activities, park updates, and changing summer weather.

Crowds should remain manageable during the first half of the week, but traffic and attraction attendance will build heading into the weekend. Warm, humid weather continues, with the best outdoor conditions currently expected during the middle of the week.

🚛 Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown

The Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown returns to the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge this week.

Public show hours begin at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Indoor displays close at 6 p.m., followed by an outdoor parking lot party and truck light show beginning around 7 p.m.

Visitors can expect:

• Customized big rigs
• Indoor and outdoor truck displays
• Food trucks and vendors
• Live entertainment
• Evening truck light shows

Truck setup takes place Wednesday and Thursday, and trucks will move out Sunday morning and afternoon. Even when the public show is not open, large truck traffic may be noticeable around Teaster Lane and the LeConte Center.

🎆 Final Week of Dollywood’s Summer Celebration

Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration ends Sunday, August 2.

This is the final week to enjoy the park’s summer entertainment, seasonal food, colorful decorations, dance parties, and nightly drone and fireworks show.

The nighttime show is weather-dependent, so visitors should check Dollywood’s schedule before making a special evening trip. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will likely be the busiest days at Dollywood.

Anakeesta’s United Tastes of America celebration continues this week in downtown Gatlinburg.

The event features food inspired by different regions of the country, live music, family entertainment, and special activities throughout the park. The event continues through August 9.

🦖 Jurassic Adventure at The Island

The Island in Pigeon Forge continues its free Jurassic Adventure featuring 22 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs.

Parking and admission to The Island are free, making this a good option for families looking for a lower-cost activity. Additional attractions, rides, restaurants, and shops are available throughout the property.

🧜 Mermaid Monday at Soaky Mountain

Soaky Mountain Waterpark has Mermaid Monday activities scheduled for Monday, July 27.

This is a regular waterpark admission activity rather than a separate major event, but it could be a fun option for families visiting at the beginning of the week.

🎉 Parties on the Plaza

Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza in downtown Gatlinburg hosts Parties on the Plaza Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

🚡 Ober Mountain Tram Closure

The Ober Mountain Aerial Tram is scheduled to be closed Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29.

The tram is expected to operate Monday, Thursday, and Friday, but operating schedules can change because of weather, maintenance, or other conditions. Visitors planning specifically to ride the tram should check current information before heading downtown.

🚦 Traffic Outlook

Traffic should remain moderate Monday through Thursday before becoming busier Friday through Sunday.

Pigeon Forge

Teaster Lane near the LeConte Center will be the main event traffic area this week because of the Big Rig Showdown.

Truck setup begins before the public show opens, so large trucks may be moving through the area Wednesday and Thursday. Public event traffic will be heaviest Friday and Saturday.

Use Jake Thomas Connector to get from Veterans Boulevard near Dollywood to Teaster Lane near The Island. Keep in mind that Teaster Lane itself may slow down near the LeConte Center during the truck show.

Veterans Boulevard can help visitors avoid part of the Parkway, but nighttime lane work may occur on sections of the road between US 411 and Center View Road.

Expect the heaviest Pigeon Forge traffic:

• Friday afternoon and evening
• Saturday from late morning through dinner
• Sunday around Dollywood opening and closing times

Sevierville

The northbound lane of Park Road between Ridge Road and Crofford Street is scheduled to remain closed daily from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. through Friday, July 31. Traffic is being maintained, but local delays are possible while crews complete gas main work.

Gatlinburg

Downtown Gatlinburg will likely experience normal summer congestion Friday evening and throughout Saturday.

Visitors heading to Ripley’s Aquarium or Parties on the Plaza should arrive earlier in the day if possible. The Gatlinburg trolley system remains a useful option for visitors who want to avoid repeatedly moving and parking their vehicles downtown.

I-40 Near the North Carolina Line

Travelers arriving from North Carolina should allow additional time.

I-40 East near the Tennessee and North Carolina state line remains reduced to one lane in areas affected by Hurricane Helene repairs. Weekend backups are possible, and services are limited inside the active construction zone.

🚲 Cades Cove Vehicle-Free Wednesday

Cades Cove Loop Road will be closed to motor vehicles all day Wednesday, July 29.

Bicyclists and pedestrians may use the loop without regular vehicle traffic. The campground, picnic area, horse stables, and campground store remain open.

Parking is limited, and vehicles parked longer than 15 minutes must display a valid Great Smoky Mountains National Park parking tag. The early morning rush can fill available parking quickly. Arriving later in the morning may sometimes be easier than arriving at sunrise.

• Bear warnings are posted around campsites 76, 77, and 81.
