Sevier County Events: August 24-30, 2026

Sevier County heads into the final full week of August with a downtown fundraiser, a sensory-friendly attraction afternoon and an important deadline for families planning to attend the Sevier County Fair.

Monday and Tuesday currently look like the best days for outdoor plans. Storm chances increase during the middle of the week, while Saturday’s Relay For Life Festival will bring street closures to downtown Sevierville.

Wednesday: Cades Cove is closed to motor vehicles, and it is the final day to pick up free Sevier County Fair student tickets.

Saturday: Sevier County Relay For Life comes to downtown Sevierville, with nearby streets closed for most of the day.

Sunday: WonderWorks hosts a reduced-stimulation Sensory Day from 2–6 p.m.

The National Weather Service forecast for Sevierville, updated Saturday evening, calls for a sunny Monday with a high near 86 and a mostly sunny Tuesday with a high near 87.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny with a high near 89 and a 20 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Thursday brings the highest rain chance of the week at 50 percent, with a high near 87. Friday has a 30 percent storm chance and a high near 88. Saturday should be mostly sunny with a high near 89 and a 20 percent storm chance.

Monday and Tuesday remain the best choices for outdoor attractions, hiking and other weather-sensitive plans. Keep an eye on the radar from Wednesday afternoon through Friday. The detailed Sunday forecast was not yet available when this issue was prepared, so check the latest National Weather Service forecast before making outdoor plans.

Downtown Sevierville Street Closures Saturday

Parts of Court Avenue and Bruce Street will be closed Saturday, August 29, for the Sevier County Relay For Life Festival.

According to the City of Sevierville traffic advisory, the closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Court Avenue will be closed from Commerce Street to Joy Street. Bruce Street will be closed from the City Parking Lot exit to the Citizens National Bank parking lot.

The Relay For Life Festival itself runs from noon until 9 p.m. Drivers who are not attending should avoid the immediate courthouse area. Those going to the festival should allow extra time to find parking and walk to Courthouse Square.

No additional Sevier County-specific highway closure was confirmed in the latest published TDOT reports available when this issue was prepared. Construction schedules can change, so check the TDOT SmartWay map before a longer drive.

Sevier County’s Relay For Life Festival takes over downtown Courthouse Square Saturday, August 29. The community fundraising event runs from noon until 9 p.m. and supports the fight against cancer.

Because surrounding streets begin closing at 8 a.m., downtown traffic and parking will be affected for most of Saturday. Visitors should plan to park outside the closed area and walk to the festival.

Eagle Mountain Sanctuary Eagles Will Not Return to Dollywood

An era has ended at Dollywood after 35 years.

The non-releasable bald eagles formerly housed at Eagle Mountain Sanctuary will remain permanently at the American Eagle Foundation’s 50-acre campus in Kodak. The sanctuary was damaged by a storm in April, prompting the birds to be temporarily relocated. That move will now be permanent.

Dollywood’s relationship with the American Eagle Foundation is not ending. The organizations will continue working together, and guests will still have opportunities to see bald eagles and other birds of prey through educational programs at the Wings of America Theater.

The change ends one of Dollywood’s longest-running animal experiences, but the conservation and education work will continue.

Dollywood is currently between seasonal festivals. The Harvest Festival and Great Pumpkin LumiNights begin September 14.

Cades Cove Vehicle-Free Wednesday

Cades Cove Loop Road will be closed to motor vehicles all day Wednesday, August 26. The 11-mile loop will be available to pedestrians and cyclists.

A valid parking tag is required for vehicles parked inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park for longer than 15 minutes. Morning parking frequently fills quickly, so the National Park Service recommends considering an afternoon visit.

Bring water, food and basic supplies before entering the loop. Cell service is limited, and completing the full route can take longer than expected.

Current Trail Closures

Laurel Falls Trail remains closed for its major rehabilitation project. Bullhead Trail is closed Monday through Thursday each week through November 19 while rehabilitation work continues.

Check the park’s current conditions and closures before traveling, especially following any heavy midweek storms.

WonderWorks Sensory Day

WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge will hold a Sensory Day Sunday, August 30, from 2–6 p.m.

The event is designed for children and adults with special needs. During the designated hours, music is lowered, loud exhibits are turned off, the inversion tunnel is stopped and overall stimulation inside the attraction is reduced.

Admission is $15 per person for participating children and adults, parents, family members and caretakers. WonderWorks is located at 100 Music Road in Pigeon Forge.

📅 Coming Up: Major September Events to Plan Around

The Sevier County Fair runs Tuesday, September 1, through Labor Day, September 7, at the Sevier County Fairgrounds on Old Knoxville Highway.

Regular admission is $8 for ages 11 and older, while children 10 and under receive free admission every day. Parking is free. Unlimited ride wristbands are $25, but carnival rides will not operate on opening day, September 1.

Saturday and Sunday, September 5–6, are rodeo days. Admission on those two days is $16 for ages 11 and older and includes the rodeo.

Free Student-Ticket Deadline

Students age 11 and older can receive one free fair-admission ticket, but it must be picked up from the fair office by Wednesday, August 26.

The offer is available to public-school, private-school and homeschool students. It does not apply to college students, and the student does not have to be present when the ticket is picked up.

Call the fair office at 865-453-0770 to confirm that day’s pickup hours before making the trip. Complete admission details are available on the official Sevier County Fair website.

This is worth handling early in the week. Waiting until the fair begins will be too late to claim the free student ticket.

The fair is the first major September event, but it is not the only date worth putting on the calendar. Two car shows and a bluegrass festival will bring additional visitors and traffic later in the month.

Hot Rod Nationals

Friday and Saturday, September 4–5

The Hot Rod Nationals features classic cars, trucks and motorcycles from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Expect additional traffic along Wears Valley Road and nearby approaches. View official event information.

Pigeon Forge Fall Rod Run

Thursday through Saturday, September 17–19
LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge

The Fall Rod Run includes indoor and outdoor show cars, a swap meet, vendors and awards. This is traditionally a major Parkway traffic weekend, so anyone visiting or commuting through Pigeon Forge should plan extra travel time. View official event information.

Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival

Thursday through Saturday, September 17–19
525 East Dumplin Valley Road, Kodak

The 26th annual festival features 12 bands, daily performances from noon to 11 p.m., food and merchandise vendors, free parking, and plenty of picking and jamming. It takes place the same weekend as the Fall Rod Run, which could increase traffic across several parts of Sevier County. Visit the official festival website.
